AIRF 4201 - Airline Operations and Management Credit(s): 3 Lecture Hour(s): 3 Lecture Hours Schedule Type: Lecture This course provides the student with a solid foundation in multiple and complex facets involved in airline management. Subjects will focus on the increasing use of data analytics in determining airline strategic decisions involved in route demand analysis, scheduling optimization, competitive slot times, fleet planning, aircraft leasing, maintenance scheduling and fleet modernization decision-making. The course will further develop the student’s skills in analyzing and creating profit plans in both passenger and cargo departments. Human resources, crew scheduling, executive management, shareholder and board reporting, and regulatory compliance and safety issues within management will be further discussed. Students will be introduced to the increasing pressure on airlines to limit carbon emissions through technological advancements and route structure design. A strong focus will be placed on the student’s understanding of managing safety management and fatigue risk management systems as well as thoroughly understanding flight dispatch operations. Practical time spent in an Operational Dispatch Department and in tracking SMS/FRMS data to implement operational management changes will be undertaken.
