Environmental science is an interdisciplinary field that uses a scientific understanding of the environment to develop solutions to environmental challenges. Students in the Environmental Science Major are provided the opportunity to gain competency in understanding and addressing environmental issues. The program assists students in becoming proficient in multiple environmental disciplines while also developing the field and laboratory skills needed to work within an interdisciplinary environment. The skills developed by students prepare them for careers related to environmental research, regulatory monitoring compliance and many other professional careers in environmental science. Students in the program gain invaluable, practical work experience by participating in two full-time, four-month paid work term placements in the environment sector. Graduates develop a wide range of transferable skills that are applicable to the vast and growing environmental sector job market. They are eligible for designation as a Professional Agrologist (Alberta Institute of Agrology) upon graduation. Their environmental science education can be continued by undertaking a graduate degree.
