HIST 3201 - Crime, Punishment and Social Control in Pre-Modern Europe Credit(s): 3 Lecture Hour(s): 3 Lecture Hours Schedule Type: Lecture This course explores the ongoing attempts by dominant institutions in pre-modern Europe to exert control over the behaviours, thoughts and acts of their subjects, and interrogates how individuals and collectives responded. Topics might include the relationship between justice and law, crime, punishment and enforcement, social deviancy, marginalization, heresy and witchcraft, suffering, and violence.
