SLGY 4203 - Sociology of Food

This course introduces students to the significance of the relationships between food, people and society. Even though eating is an individual choice it is affected by society at large. Thus we will explore the social, economic, political, and symbolic dimensions of food systems and food behavior to gain a better understanding of the social determinants of food and eating. The primary aim of this course is to help students understand social inequality through the lens of food.

Prerequisite(s): One of SLGY 3233 , SLGY 3304 , SLGY 3309 , SLGY 3321 , SLGY 3323 , SLGY 3333 , SLGY 3335 , SLGY 3345 , SLGY 3351 , SLGY 3370 , SLGY 3372 , or SLGY 3731 .
