INST 3730 - Racism and Indigenous Perspectives in Canada Credit(s): 3 Lecture Hour(s): 3 Lecture Hours Schedule Type: Blended, Lecture, Online Taught from an Indigenous perspective, this course explores the theoretical, historical, economic and political processes and practices of racialization, and the various ways in which these processes have affected, and continue to affect, Indigenous peoples in Canada. Specifically, this course places emphasis on colonization and decolonization within a Canadian anti-racist theoretical context. Through an in-depth process of self-reflection, overview of relevant literature, independent study, critical discussion and assignments that focus on analysis through a social justice lens, this course invites students to explore and apply their understanding of the historical and colonial roots of racism in Canada, and its practices in contemporary culture.
