SLWK 3315 - Diversity, Equity and Inclusion as Anti-oppressive Practice in Social Work Credit(s): 3 Lecture Hour(s): 3 Lecture Hours Schedule Type: Blended, Lecture, Online This course explores the history of diversity in Canadian social systems. The curriculum will assist students in understanding the causes of discrimination, oppression, poverty, exclusion, exploitation, and marginalization and their impacts on individuals, families, groups, and communities. Students will examine a broad range of critical theories including structural, feminist, anti-racist, queer, and anti-oppressive practice. Students will have the opportunity to develop their capacity for self-reflection and a critical understanding of power, privilege, and social location as it relates to professional social work practice.
Prerequisite(s): A grade of C or higher in all of SLWK 2217 , SLWK 2221 , and SLWK 2224 .
