SLWK 4416 - Social Justice and Social Work Practice Credit(s): 3 Lecture Hour(s): 3 Lecture Hours Schedule Type: Blended, Lecture, Online This advanced course explores the central concepts of a social justice perspective including historical and current manifestations of inequity and injustice. Particular attention is given to exploring the role of social work in the context of social change movements as a human rights profession both globally and locally. Students will have the opportunity to develop skills to identify social inequalities, injustices, and barriers and work towards changing oppressive social conditions. Particular attention will be paid to the intersection between practice and the capacity of marginalized populations to develop agency in leaving oppressive practices.
Prerequisite(s): A grade of C or higher in SLWK 3397 or equivalent.
