GEOL 1151 - Introduction to the Petroleum Industry: Social, Political, Economic, and Environmental Issues Credit(s): 3 Lecture Hour(s): 3 Lecture Hours Schedule Type: Lecture Overview and history of the petroleum industry and its contribution to Alberta’s economy and the development and prosperity of Canada. The primary emphasis is on business and geopolitical aspects, with a discussion of history, geology, exploration, drilling, production, and pipelines. Topics include major petroleum regions, oil and gas economics, risk analysis, regulation and public safety, the oil price, reserves, and impact on society in the context of the environment and climate change.
Note: A non-science background is assumed. This course cannot be used as a General Science Option.
