An introduction to crystallography and the structure of minerals, elements of symmetry, and the interrelationship of crystal structure to the optical and chemical properties of minerals. Laboratory component comprises transmitted light microscopic examination of rock-forming minerals and the identification of igneous, metamorphic, and sedimentary rocks.

Prerequisite(s): GEOL 2103 with a grade of C- or higher.
