General Information
The Spatial Data Science Post-Bachelor’s Certificate will provide a solid foundation in managing, understanding, analyzing, applying and visualizing data, including aspects of big data and machine learning. A special emphasis on spatial data science will introduce students to geospatial tools, data, and applications critical to location-based IT solutions. The program draws from disciplines of computing, data science, and geography, and offers hands-on learning opportunities to enhance classroom learning.
This certificate is appropriate for university graduates wanting to build on their education and gain skills valued in environmental and business sectors; seeking work in the environmental, IT or business sector; expanding computer science or geospatial skills; and for those who are a professional trained in another country, looking for a Canadian industry perspective and a valued credential.
To meet the requirements of the Post-baccalaureate certificate, students in the program would be expected to take 10 courses over 2 terms from selected courses in geography and data science.
Admission Requirements
Bachelor’s degree.
Note: One introductory course in each of linear algebra (e.g., MATH 1103 ) and computer programming (e.g., COMP 1701 ) are required. An introductory GIS course (e.g.,GEOG 1105 ) is recommended but not required.
