This course involves the theoretical and practical study of igneous rocks in hand specimens and thin sections. Major topics include the description, classification and origin of igneous rocks. Melting, magma crystallization and magma differentiation are also covered; along with the relationship between tectonics and igneous petrology.
Prerequisite(s) / Corequisite(s): GEOL 2111 with a minimum grade of C- or higher. General Science Option
