NURS 3142 - Gerontological Nursing Credit(s): 3 Lecture Hour(s): 6 Lecture Hours Schedule Type: Lecture In this course, students will utilize gerontological nursing knowledge and skills in a relational care approach to promote health and well-being, foster resilience and adaptation to change, optimize function, and prevent illness and injury of diverse older adults and their care partners. Students will learn the concepts of age-related changes, ageism, theories of aging, interprofessional partnerships, chronic disease management, and life transitions to understand the complexities of aging within the healthcare environment.
Prerequisite(s): HLTH 2250 , INTS 1240 , PSYC 2235 , HPED 2507 , as well as a grade of C or higher in NURS 2215 and an EP in NURS 2216 .
AND
One of GNED 1101 , GNED 1102 , or GNED 1103 , one of GNED 1201 , GNED 1202 , or GNED 1203 , one of GNED 1301 or GNED 1303 , and one of GNED 1401 , GNED 1403 , GNED 1404 , or ENGL 1101 . Note: It is recommended that students complete NURS 3142 and NURS 3144 concurrently to best support the integration of theory and clinical practice.
