ATTH 3160 - Field Practicum I(formerly HPED 3160) Credit(s): 1.5 Lecture Hour(s): 1 Lecture Hours Schedule Type: Lecture Other Hour(s): 8 Other Hours Schedule Type: Practicum
This is an introductory-level field placement with an approved agency that focuses on field evaluation and management skills. Students will demonstrate evidence-based, ethical, critical thinking, reflection, and collaborative practice while integrating previous and current theoretical and practical knowledge in line with the Canadian Athletic Therapists Association Scope of Practice and Professional Competencies List. Participants will participate in lectures once every two weeks, complete 100 hours of practicum, and complete practicum and course requirements. Athletic Therapy students are expected to be open to working with diverse populations and gender identities across the lifespan.
Prerequisite(s): ATTH 2112 and ATTH 2505 with a minimum grade of B-, one of ATTH 2050 or HPED 2050 , and all of HPED 2830 , HPED 2850 , PHYL 3514 , and PHYL 3516 .
AND
Successful completion of both the Mount Royal University First Responder for Athletic Therapy course and the Taping and Prophylactic Support course. Note: Students registered in ATTH 3160 should be aware that the start date of their practicum can begin prior to the start of the Fall semester. In addition, students are required to be available until the end of the final exam period in order to complete all practicum and course requirements.
Students must be prepared to attend clinical/field practicum anywhere in Calgary and must be open to options outside of Calgary.
